Montrose Quarry proposal update
Following a determination by the Victorian Minister for Planning, that an Environment Effects Statement (EES) is required, we are waiting for a full scoping requirements document that will define environmental and community matters to be assessed. The proposal is at a very early stage of what is a lengthy, multi-year approval process. As a result, environmental studies and formal consultation have not yet commenced and we would not expect to be finalising and submitting an EES response until sometime in 2027.
This website will be progressively updated as further information becomes available, including once scoping requirements are confirmed and technical studies commence. It will serve as a central source of project information throughout the EES process.
We recognise the importance of clear, accessible and timely information, and are committed to updating stakeholders as the process progresses in line with formal milestones and consultation opportunities.
Boral will consult extensively with the community as part of the EES process. Consultation is a formal and essential component of the approvals process, and will be guided by scoping requirements from the Government, which will also define how and when the community can participate.
Boral is concerned that misinformation is driving unnecessary community concern about our proposal. We are committed to addressing this directly and transparently, and will work closely with the community to clearly explain the project, engage openly and in good faith, and provide clear information about the robust technical assessments that underpin it.
Montrose Quarry, which predates much of the residential growth in the area, has supplied construction materials for Victoria for almost 70 years and remains an important local source of materials needed to support housing and infrastructure as the state’s population grows.
This proposal, if successful, would see continuity of supply for the next 30 years, securing continued employment for about 100 people and a conservative estimated contribution of $31 million per annum to the Victorian economy.
Our website looks a little different. The Montrose Quarry proposal is now entering the Environment Effects Statement (EES) process. This website will be progressively updated, with information added and refined in line with scoping requirements as they are confirmed.
