Ground Control Management Plan

Ground Control Management Plan Fact Sheet

A Ground Control Management Plan has been developed for the project, and will provide the necessary framework to recognise, identify and address related geotechnical issues for the purpose of creating a safe, stable, and sustainable site, during quarry operations all the way through to closure and rehabilitation phases.

A key part of the management plan is the geotechnical risk assessment. The risk assessment is used to identify and address any perceived or known threats to the:

  • Safety of people – including the public and site personnel
  • Environment
  • Risk to quarry employees
  • Key infrastructure within and around the quarry
  • Nearby public infrastructure (where applicable)

The findings of the risk assessment help tailor management protocols to the site with the aim of mitigating risks to be within acceptable limits.

A geotechnical risk management framework for the site has been developed and includes:

  • Employment of suitable slope formation techniques
  • Robust geotechnical monitoring protocols
  • Appropriate response approaches to potential geotechnical hazards

Robust monitoring procedures have been developed that include monitoring the stability of the pit walls, ground and surface water monitoring, erosion control, drill and blast protocols.
