Regulatory Requirements at Montrose Quarry
The Montrose Quarry site (WA100) is subject to the following key licences and legislative instruments:
- The Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 (Vic) and associated Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) (Extractives Industries) Regulations 2019 (Vic) provide a legal framework for quarrying / mining.
- Planning and Environment Act 1987.
- The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic) and associated Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (2017) (Vic) which address the health, safety and welfare of employees in the workplace, and of the general public, in connection with the operation of the Montrose Quarry under Boral Resources (Vic) Pty Ltd.
- The Environment Protection Act 2017 (Vic), Water Act 1989 (Vic), Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act (1988) (Vic).
- State Planning Policy Framework (SPPF).
- WorkSafe, the Victorian Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) are the key State Government Regulatory bodies that oversee mining and quarrying operations in Victoria. These bodies enforce the policies listed in the acts above to ensure that this Montrose Quarry site will meet the future agreements set out once the approval of the Administration Update is obtained.
