The history of Montrose Quarry

Bayview Quarries Pty Ltd was granted a permit to operate at the Montrose Quarry site in October 1956. Shortly thereafter, Germano and Sons established a smaller quarry adjacent to the Bayview property. Recognising the strategic need for a dedicated rock source, Pronto Concrete subsequently purchased a portion of the site, naming it Mountain View Quarry—marking their first quarry acquisition.

In 1967, the Bayview site was acquired by Albion Reid Pty Ltd, which was later purchased by Boral Limited. The company rebranded as Boral Resources Limited in 1976. In 1979, Boral Resources Limited further consolidated its holdings by acquiring Mountain View Pty Ltd, thereby assuming ownership of the entire Montrose Quarry site.

Historically, the site featured two primary pits due to the presence of multiple operators. Following Boral’s full acquisition, these pits were integrated into a single operational area.
